HUS expands the presence of support persons in the Gynecology and Obstetrics units
Keywords:The changes concern, for example, maternity wards, gynecological emergency care and some infertility treatments.
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, HUS has restricted the presence of patients’ families and friends in hospitals and units. The possibility for a spouse or support person to be present in HUS's Gynecology and Obstetrics units is now expanding.
The presence of a healthy, asymptomatic support person is permitted in maternity wards that have several patients in the same room. HUS hopes that visits will last no more than one hour at a time to prevent the coronavirus infections of other patients and newborns.
A support person who has no symptoms of communicable diseases may participate in the early pregnancy ultrasound examination. In the future, a person admitted to gynecological emergency care may have one healthy support person with them.
In infertility treatments, one healthy support person may join in the collection of egg cells and the early pregnancy ultrasound examination. At gynecological outpatient clinics, a support person may participate in visits related to pregnancy and its planning.
Asymptomatic support persons have already been allowed to participate in childbirth.
The support person is expected to follow the instructions given by the personnel on the use of face masks and hand sanitiser. HUS also recommends getting coronavirus vaccinations.
The changes take effect immediately and apply to all HUS hospitals.
