Renovation of the Department of Oncology
We will renovate the low-rise building section of the Department of Oncology in phases during 2020–2025.

In the renovation, we will change the premises of the outdated Department of Oncology to meet the needs of today's specialist medical care. During the renovation, we will take into account the premises that have already been renovated and the significant investments made in the premises.
In the first phase, we will renovate floors 0 and 1 at the southern end of the low-rise part of the building. Construction work began during 2020 and the estimated completion is in 2022.
We will start planning the second phase of the renovation in 2022. In the second phase, we will renovate floors 1–2 at the northern end of the low-rise part of the building.
At a later stage of construction, we will make a decision on the tower section of the outpatient clinic building, which will either be demolished or renovated. The respective plans for this will be initiated after the completion of the Bridge Hospital.
Treatment of cancer in Meilahti
In the future, we will be treating cancer on the Meilahti campus in three hospitals: In Meilahti Triangle Hospital, the lower floors of the renovated Department of Oncology, and the Bridge Hospital.
The Bridge Hospital, which is currently under construction, will merge its facilities and operations with the Department of Oncology and will also replace some of its facilities. In the Bridge Hospital, we will build facilities for extensive outpatient and day hospital operations and for cancer patients in need of inpatient care.
After the renovation, the low part of the Cancer Center building will house the radiation therapy and molecular radiotherapy units (formerly the Nuclear Medicine Unit), as well as imaging and the supportive and palliative center. We will also renovate facilities for the specialized workers who provide services for the Cancer Center; the clinical dietitians, physiotherapists and social workers.
