Additional construction is planned for the Peijas Hospital area to meet the needs of HUS and the wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava. The new construction projects include a new building for wards and a parking facility to replace the existing parking lot on the site. The new construction will enable a comprehensive renovation of the existing hospital building to meet the future needs of hospital operations. An amendment of the current detailed plan is pending to allow for additional construction.
Our first project will be to build a new construction for surgical operations and equipment maintenance.
A new construction to house a surgery unit and medical equipment maintenance 2025–2030
We have been planning to renovate the surgery unit and the facilities for medical equipment maintenance at Peijas Hospital, which was completed in the 1990s, and its extensions which where completed in 1993 and 2007. This part of the hospital has not been renovated and its building systems are at the end of their life cycle. With the construction project, we are preparing for an increase in demand and aiming to secure sufficient operating room capacity.
First, we will build a new construction for the surgery unit, attached to the existing hospital building, after which some of the old parts of the buildings will also be replaced by a new construction. All of the existing operating rooms at Peijas Hospital will move to the new constructions, where the rooms will be larger, generic, and state-of-the-art. The number of operating rooms will increase from the current 17 to 20 rooms.
The new facilities will enable us to meet the needs of modern surgery units, such as robotic surgery and orthopedic joint replacement, as well as the growing demand for services as the population of Uusimaa continues to grow and age.
The renovation of the facilities for medical equipment maintenance and the modernization of the equipment is necessary in parallel with the renovation of the surgery unit. The new facilities and increased capacity will support the surgery unit and the medical equipment maintenance of the entire hospital as well as the surrounding areas.
After the new construction, we will renovate the existing recovery room facilities in the J-building into spaces for outpatient clinic operations and support facilities. In addition to the operating rooms, all ancillary facilities such as clinic areas and recovery rooms will be renovated. The project also aims to improve the comfort of patient and staff facilities.
