Choice of maternity hospital and orientation visits Approximately 16,000 babies are born each year in the HUS hospitals. Almost a third of Finns are born in HUS hospitals. At HUS, you can give birth at Women's Hospital and the Espoo, Hyvinkää, and Lohja hospitals. We also monitor high-risk pregnancies in the maternity outpatient clinics in our maternity hospitals and in the Porvoo and Raseborg maternity outpatient clinics. If you live in the HUS region, you are free to choose your maternity hospital. We follow the same treatment principles, such as the family and baby-friendly initiative, in all our maternity hospitals. At Women's Hospital, we treat high-risk pregnancies and childbirths requiring inpatient care for the entire Uusimaa region. If your pregnancy has been monitored in a maternity outpatient clinic or hospital, we will consider the choice of your maternity hospital case-specifically with you and your physician. If your physician has determined that you or your baby require special monitoring during the pregnancy, we will always take care of your childbirth at Women's Hospital. Deliveries are not evenly distributed on each day of the year. Since childbirths are an on-call activity, busier and quieter days will take turns. This is why you may be directed to another HUS hospital due to rush times, when you call your maternity hospital. This is unfortunate, but it is a way for us to ensure that we have time for you and your family during and after childbirth.
