Neurosurgery
Neurosurgery in HUS is centralized in the Helsinki University Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic at Töölö Hospital. We treat all neurosurgical patients in the Uusimaa region and in the Hospital Districts of Kymenlaakso, South Karelia, and Päijät-Häme.
All cerebral bypass surgeries in Finland are performed exclusively at our neurosurgery clinic. In addition, we treat complex cranial base tumors, cerebral aneurysms, and cerebrovascular malformations in patients from Finland and abroad. This year, we will perform more than 3,500 surgeries and with the Päijät-Häme area included, we will perform nearly 4,000 surgeries.
Epilepsy surgery has been nationally centralized in HUS and Kuopio University Hospital. Our Helsinki University Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic has strong expertise in pediatric neurosurgery, and Finland’s only pediatric neurosurgery emergency service to provide care 24 hours a day operates in Helsinki.

We are among the largest units in the world in terms of the number of surgical procedures performed to treat cerebrovascular diseases and moderate and severe brain injuries. Every year, we treat over 3,000 patients. Every year, we provide training to 100–200 foreign neurosurgeons on the latest surgical methods for microneurosurgery.
