In addition to facial injuries and jaw fractures, we also examine and treat developmental disorders in the mouth and jaw area, diseases of the temporomandibular joints, and diseases of the oral mucous membranes. Our area of focus are surgically treated head and neck tumors.

A significant part of our patients have severe systemic diseases, such as cancer patients receiving radiation therapy or cytotoxic drug therapy and patients scheduled for heart and organ transplantation surgery.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Uusimaa region has been centralized in the Park Hospital and Oral and Dental Centre. In addition to this, some activities take place in Töölö Hospital and New Children's Hospital.

Emergency Clinic

The clinic is responsible for the examination and treatment of emergency and urgent cases of dental, jaw and facial injuries as well as severe acute infections of the dentition and jaws. Our oral and maxillofacial surgeon who is on call 24 hours a day at Töölö Hospital’s Emergency Department is in charge of the diagnostics and treatment of facial fractures. The Emergency Clinic for oral and maxillofacial surgery at Töölö Hospital is responsible for providing emergency services for oral diseases in primary health care at night (between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.).

Patient groups requiring the most demanding care and treatment

Our most demanding patient groups are patients with oral or maxillofacial cancer and other tumors, patients with severe facial injuries, and patients requiring various reconstructive facial, jaw, or temporomandibular joint surgery.

We plan the surgical treatment of patients requiring highly demanding medical care using computerized 3D modeling. We can produce individual implants made to measure. In 2008, we reportedly performed the world's first procedure, in which the left upper jaw removed from the patient due to a widespread tumor was replaced with a bone graft grown from stem cells originally isolated from the patient’s own fatty tissue.
