Emergency Department
Keywords:At the emergency departments, we treat patients with acute and severe illnesses who need urgent treatment.
Patients in need of urgent care are primarily treated at a health center’s emergency services. If your local health center is closed and your issue cannot wait until it is open again, please call the Medical Helpline at the number 116117.
If you have an emergency referral, you do not need to phone the Medical Helpline; you can come directly to the emergency clinic.
In an emergency, you can also go directly to the Emergency Department.
In life-threatening situations (chest pain, shortness of breath, unconsciousness, stroke symptoms, acute seizure), call the general emergency number 112.
The most common symptoms that you should always have checked in an emergency clinic:
- Chest pain
- Symptoms of paralysis such as sudden flaccidity or incapacity of a limb or speech difficulties
- Profuse bleeding (e.g. vomiting of blood, large bleeding wound)
- Major injuries and bone fractures
- Sudden severe headache
- Respiratory distress
- Sudden onset of severe or worsening abdominal pain
- Mental health problems requiring urgent treatment
- Fever in a newborn
- Convulsive child.
At the emergency department, we always assess the need and urgency of treatment first. Based on this, you will be referred to a nurse or physician. Patients are treated in the order of urgency, not in the order of arrival. Therefore, a patient who has arrived after you may be admitted for treatment before you.
