Our Psychiatric Inpatient Care Unit for Adolescents with Intellectual Disability in Hämeenlinna is a unit for advanced-level multiprofessional support as defined in the Disability Services Act (Vammaispalvelulaki) for adolescents aged of 13 to 17. At our inpatient care unit, we provide psychiatric treatment and examination periods for people with intellectual disability, as well as involuntary special care defined in the Special Care Act (Erityishuoltolaki).
We admit patients with a doctor's referral as planned, and the client needs to have a valid special care program or a decision for providing special care made by a expert group for advanced-level multiprofessional support in addition to a decision for advanced-level multiprofessional support as defined in section 16 of the Disability Services Act (Vammaispalvelulaki).
At our unit, we examine and treat patients with challenges related to intellectual disability or psychiatric symptoms. We also perform examinations of intellectual disability or its severity.
We offer care according to the patient's individual needs with a focus on assessing and supporting the patient’s functional capacity, medicinal and non-medicinal treatment, and finding care models, structures and communication methods best suited for each person. We utilize dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) methods tailored to the patient’s developmental level.
We cooperate with the adolescent, their family, and school.
