On Ward K2B for Infectious Diseases at the Meilahti Triangle Hospital, we treat severe and acute cases of infectious diseases.

Patients are transferred to us from emergency clinics, enhanced monitoring wards, and intensive care units. Our patients may also transfer to us from wards in other specialties for further treatment of infection complications. Very few of our patients arrive directly to the ward with a referral.

We principally care for the following specialized-level patient groups requiring specialist medical care:

  • patients with a severe and acute general infection
  • patients who have to be isolated because of their illness
  • patients who have an unexplained fever or whose diagnostics or care is otherwise challenging

The ward has 14 patient beds in 6 single rooms and 4 double rooms.

Our ward has plans in place and the personnel is trained to deal with new dangerous infectious diseases and threats thereof, including hemorrhagic fevers and biological weapons.
