Renovation of Women’s Hospital

We will be renovating the Women's Hospital by building section. Renovation constructions have started in 2017.

Women’s Hospital is a protected building and the oldest hospital building on the Meilahti campus. Its oldest building sections not yet renovated are in need of, among other things, renewal of their building technology. The extensive indoor air and condition studies we have conducted during the 2010s have revealed risk structures typical of the building’s construction period in the 1930s as well as potential sources of indoor air contaminants, which we will be repairing during the renovation.

The renovation program includes several phases in which we will reconstruct Women’s Hospital to meet the patient-oriented and cost-effective activities required in the future.

Women’s Hospital, section C: In the first phase of the renovation, floors 3–6 in section C, the Haartmaninkatu side, were renovated into inpatient wards. In the C section of the building, we are still renovating floors T, 1 and 2, which do not have a fixed schedule for the time being. Section C will mainly house inpatient wards, as well as administrative facilities and a lecture hall.

Women’s Hospital, section A: The renovation started in early 2022. At this section, facing toward New Children’s Hospital, we will be renovating all the floors at the same time. On floors 1 and 4, we will build outpatient clinic facilities, and floors 3, 5 and 6 will house inpatient wards. On floor 2, we will build an extension of the maternity unit, and on floor T, we will build support facilities.

Women’s Hospital, sections B and D: In accordance with our renovation program, we will finally renovate the B and D sections of the hospital. For these phases, we have not yet started planning.
