At the obstetric emergency departments, we treat patients in need of urgent care. Please call the hospital before seeking medical attention at the emergency department or coming in to give birth.

We always assess the need and urgency of treatment

At the emergency department, we always assess the need and urgency of treatment first. If you need urgent treatment, you will see a midwife or a doctor. If your situation does not meet the criteria for urgent treatment, we will instruct you to contact your local health center or neuvola/maternity clinic.

At the emergency department, patients are treated in the order of urgency, not in the order of arrival. Because of this, a patient who has arrived after you may be admitted for treatment before you. The waiting times at the emergency department depend on the number of patients at the emergency department, as well as the number of patients elsewhere in the hospital. This is why waiting times may be long.

Please follow the instructions you received over the phone on arrival time. We aim to stagger the arrival of patients to avoid unnecessary waiting.
