Breast surgery

In breast surgery, our principal tasks are: 

• treatment of breast cancer and other tumors in the breast,
• breast correction and breast reduction surgery, and
• surgical treatment of inflammatory changes in the breasts. 

We perform breast cancer operations for the Uusimaa region mainly at our Breast Surgery Unit, which is the largest of its kind in the Nordic countries. Based at the Park Hospital, the unit admits more than 1,000 new breast cancer patients for surgery each year. We also examine and operate on benign tumors and inflammatory changes in the breasts. Women diagnosed with a gene mutation that increases the risk of breast cancer are also treated at the Breast Surgery Unit. 

Surgical treatment for breast cancer and for benign tumors and inflammatory changes in the breasts for the Uusimaa region is also given at Hyvinkää Hospital. 

Comprehensive Cancer Center is responsible for the planning and delivery of adjuvant therapy for breast cancer patients, for patient monitoring and for the care of patients with metastatic breast cancer.

The Breast Surgery Unit cooperates closely with plastic surgery in cases of breast surgery. We perform immediate and delayed breast correction surgery at the plastic surgery clinics at Park Hospital and Jorvi Hospitals. At these locations we also operate on locally recurring breast cancers requiring tissue grafts, perform breast reduction surgery, and correct errors in breast development such as severe asymmetry. 
 
We also perform immediate and delayed reconstructive breast surgery and breast reduction surgery at Hyvinkää Hospital.
