Some HUS laboratory clients who had tests taken with a referral from a private physician have received other people’s data by mail

18 persons who have had tests taken with a referral from a private physician have received other clients’ personal information and test results with their own results either by mail or to OmaPosti. The personal data of 70 individuals were disclosed to the wrong recipients. The error occurred during a transition to a new information system.

The error came up on August 26, 2026, thanks to reports from clients who had received other people’s test results. The information system in question is currently not in use.

The individuals whose information and results were sent to wrong recipients will be notified of the incident by letter. 

The data protection ombudsman will be informed of the incident.

Individuals who have received personal information and test results of other clients are requested to destroy that data or to contact HUS for instructions.

Due to the error, we have halted sending results to clients who visited our laboratories with a referral from a private physician on August 25, 2026. Clients over the age of 12 may collect their results from a HUS laboratory by providing a photo ID. We aim to deliver the results to our clients as soon as possible.

We apologize for this personal data breach and the consequent worry and harm. We take this incident and personal data protection extremely seriously.
