Renovation of Women’s Hospital at the final stage: section B will be renewed between 2027 and 2029

In 2027, the renovation of the Women’s Hospital will proceed to its last phase covering an entire building section, i.e. the renovation of section B. The first preparations will begin this spring already, and the relocation of hospital operations before the start of the renovation will be carried out during this year. Section B houses the emergency department and maternity wards, among other things. The renovation will be completed in 2029.

The main entrance to the Women’s Hospital will not be in use during the renovation. It will be replaced by three temporary entrances. We will publish more information about changes in patient care and about the new entrances when the plans progress.

In the renovation project, the hospital’s facilities will be renewed to meet the needs of future patient-oriented activities. The Women’s Hospital focuses on childbirths and specialized healthcare in gynecology. It is a protected building and the oldest hospital building on the Meilahti campus.

The Women’s Hospital has been renovated in phases since 2017

The Women’s Hospital has been renovated section by section since 2017. The top floors of section C of the Women’s Hospital have been converted into inpatient wards. The renovation starting next year is the last renovation of a complete building section, but in addition to this, the renovation of the lowest floors of section C will be included in the investment program for the coming years.

In the renovation of section A, the facilities for childbirth services were expanded and new ones were built for appointments and wards. The latest part of the renovation project was completed in March 2025, when building D was renovated for administration. At the same time, facilities for the Seri Support Center for Victims of Sexual Assault were built in section C.
