Finland’s largest general cardiology outpatient clinic operates in the heart of Helsinki
Keywords:The Postitalo building located in the very center of Helsinki is currently home to Finland’s largest general cardiology outpatient clinic. The clinic is expected to receive up to 6,000 patient visits per year.
"Our situation is very good. Patients can get an appointment within a month, and we are able to offer urgent appointments to those who need them", say Henna Verlander and Janne Rapola from the Postitalo cardiology outpatient clinic.
In September 2025, the City of Helsinki's cardiology services were transferred to HUS. Since the transition, the number of referrals to the Cardiology Outpatient Clinic in Postitalo has tripled. Before the transfer of operations, the clinic received about 150 referrals per month, but the number has now risen to between 500 and 700.
“By September, when a year has passed since the business transfer, we estimate that the number of appointments will have reached 6,000,” says Deputy Chief Physician Janne Rapola, from the Cardiology Outpatient Clinic.
Whereas the clinic previously operated with four doctor’s offices, the number of rooms has now doubled to eight.
The Postitalo clinic treats patients with coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, and cardiac insufficiency, among other cardiac illnesses. The clinic has now started offering appointments related to cardioversion procedures.
Specialized cardiology outpatient clinics operate in the Meilahti Tower and Triangle hospitals as before.
Patients receive an appointment within about a month
Postitalo’s clinic has been treating cardiological patients since 2020. The clinic is able to offer appointments within the target time frame.
“Our situation is very good. Patients can get an appointment within a month, and we are able to offer urgent appointments to those who need them. Of course, patients requiring emergency care need to go to Meilahti,” says Rapola.
“We also offer health center physicians a one-hour daily consultation line,” adds Rapola.
