City of Helsinki and HUS to survey experiences of people who have given birth

Keywords:

This autumn, the City of Helsinki and HUS will carry out a survey to gather the experiences of people who have received care at maternity clinics in Helsinki and given birth at HUS Women’s Hospital.

Vanhemmat katselevat nukkuvaa vastasyntynyttä.

The survey will focus on people’s views of the services and care they received during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. It will be conducted electronically in autumn 2025 by the University of Turku.

Follow-up study on the impact of development measures

A similar survey was last carried out in 2022, and the findings have since guided improvements in services at Helsinki’s maternity clinics and at HUS Women’s Hospital. For example, changes to appointment practices have been introduced to strengthen continuity of care. In summer 2024, reformed family and prenatal classes were introduced at maternity clinics and the Women’s Hospital.

At the Women’s Hospital, maternity wards have also adopted care meetings that combine comprehensive family support and guidance, including nursing and newborn care.

The upcoming 2025 survey will examine whether these development measures have led to improvements in people’s experiences. The results will again be used to further enhance the services and care provided at maternity clinics and at HUS Women’s Hospital.
