2019 brought a new CEO, Chief Communications Officer and Director of the Helsinki University Hospital Area

Juha Tuominen took up the duties of CEO of HUS on January 1, 2019. Prior to joining HUS, Tuominen was Senior Medical Director at Terveystalo. During his CEO term, Tuominen plans to emphasize three issues: the wellbeing of the personnel, strengthening cooperation in primary health care, and developing cooperation with the University of Helsinki.

These matters were also included in the focus area manifest for the CEO drafted together with the HUS Executive Board. Tuominen’s agenda also includes improving administrative efficiency for procurement, finances, HR management and communications.

The new Chief Communications Officer at HUS, as of June, is Paula Isopahkala. She joined HUS after an extensive career in communications and marketing at Neste. One of her first tasks was to launch a reorganization of the communications unit. This project began in autumn 2019 and continues into spring 2020. The new communications organization was inaugurated on April 1, 2020.

Atte Meretoja took up the duties of Director of the Helsinki University Hospital Area at the beginning of October. He was previously Director of the HUS Neurocenter. The position of Director of the Helsinki University Hospital Area is a new one; Meretoja is responsible for the operations and financial management of the hospital area. These duties were previously managed by the HUS CEO alongside his other duties. This new arrangement allows both executives to focus better on their respective duties.
