The operating volume of our service production was 3.6% under budget, while showing an increase of 3.7% on the previous year.
Outpatient care accounted for a slightly smaller percentage of specialist medical care at HUS than in the previous year, 45.2% (2020: 46.1%). Outpatient care billing accounted for 46.4% of HUS’s own service production, i.e. specialist medical care and primary health care. In terms of product numbers, outpatient care accounted for 87.9% of specialist medical care at HUS in 2020 and for 88.7% of all service production.
The number of psychiatry treatment days increased by 2.4%.

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on available intensive care capacity decreased from the previous year, and the number of surgical procedures increased by 10.5% on 2020. However, the 2019 level was still not regained. A total of 86,772 surgical procedures were performed, of which 65,214 were non-urgent (+16%) and 21,523 were emergency surgeries (-4%).
We made 420 organ transplantations in 2020, and the coronavirus pandemic did not affect their number in the year under review either.
