The coronavirus pandemic continued to dominate in 2021, with significant impacts on HUS Logistics operations.
Despite the global supply chain challenges, we managed to provide good support for our clients, and there were no major shortages that would have disrupted operations.
In March 2021, we published our third GRI-compliant responsibility report as part of the HUS Annual Report.
Organizational changes and development activities
In February, we revised our reporting view so that departments find it easier to monitor their supply consumption in the PowerBI system. PowerBI is a tool developed in procurement to improve compliance with responsibility criteria.
In spring 2021, we released in-house procurement training videos. The purpose of the videos is to promote financial responsibility in keeping with the HUS corporate responsibility program by improving the procurement competence of HUS employees.
The procurement unit was transferred out of HUS Logistics to the Joint Authority Administration on July 1, 2021.
We have pursued a responsible procurement approach under the HUS corporate responsibility program. Procurement Secretary Kristiina Böss was commissioned by HUS to do her master’s thesis on responsible procurement management in a public organization.
As the volume of operations grew, the total volume of waste grew also. We were able to keep to the level of waste sorting attained in 2020, and plastic collection was further improved.
In 2021, 14% of joint procurement decisions involved applying responsibility criteria (36 decisions, annual value EUR 29.6 million). This represents a decrease on the previous year.
Quality certificate and Savviest Procurement of the Year
On April 19 ,2021, Labquality Oy awarded HUS Logistics an ISO 9001:2015 certificate. This certificate confirms that the HUS Logistics quality system satisfies the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard. The certificate is valid for three years.
In April 2021, the Public Procurement Advisory Unit awarded the HUS Logistics examination glove procurement the distinction of Savviest Procurement of the Year.
Frequent engagement with stakeholders
In 2021, we engaged a great deal with various stakeholders. Cooperation involved deploying the ‘Hankinta-Suomi’ national procurement strategy, procurement units in the Helsinki metropolitan area, the Keino Competence Center, Nordic procurement units and in-house in the ‘Ecological ATeK’ campaign, among other things. Category work in procurement also increased goal-oriented stakeholder cooperation with customers.
We are engaging in active dialogue with the supplier market to ensure that the markets are prepared to respond to our new, more ambitious requirements.
Employees have been invited to share their own ideas for responsibility throughout the year. Feelgood campaigns by personnel, such as the HUS Logistics and HUS Procurement joint Christmas present collection for children and families at the intimate partner violence unit in Koivula in Vantaa, succeeded according to expectations.
