Together with the University of Helsinki, we make up Finland’s most specialized and, in terms of educational offerings, broad-based cluster in medical science.
National and international studies conducted by our researchers are of a high quality and are impactful at the individual level and at the level of society. We have more than 1,000 specializing physicians in all 50 specialties. Every year, approximately 800 medical students complete an internship at a HUS hospital.
The Faculty of Medicine published 146 doctoral dissertations in 2020. These were in the following fields:

- nursing and health science 3 (Universities of Jyväskylä, Oulu and Turku)
In 2020, we granted 819 new research permits and 181 new thesis permits, of which 70% were for degrees at universities of applied sciences.
During the year, HUS researchers filed 8 inventions.
