The number of emergency clinic visits decreased by 12.5% on the year 2019.

There were 261,700 emergency clinic visits in specialist medical care in 2020, compared with 297,870 in the previous year.

It is highly likely that this decrease is due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the monthly level, the number of emergency clinic visits was lowest in March, April and October in 2020. In 2019, by contrast, the number of emergency clinic visits was unusually high, which was due to the transfer of emergency clinic functions at Haartman and Malmi Hospitals from the City of Helsinki to HUS at the beginning of 2019.

The basic health care and specialist medical care joint emergency department at Raseborg Hospital was discontinued on September 30, 2020. It was replaced by a round-the-clock basic health care emergency clinic provided by HUS. Patients in Västra Nyland requiring demanding emergency case were subsequently referred to the joint emergency department at Lohja Hospital or to other HUS joint emergency departments.

In 2020, there were 716 emergency clinic visits per day on average. The comparable figure one year earlier was 820.
