Renovation of Women’s Hospital
We are renovating the Women’s Hospital in sections. The renovation project started in 2017.
The Women’s Hospital is a protected building and the oldest hospital building on the Meilahti campus. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems of its oldest, unrenovated building sections are in need of modernisation, among other things. The extensive indoor air and building condition assessments we conducted during the 2010s have revealed risk structures typical of the building’s construction period (the 1930s) as well as potential sources of indoor air contaminants, which we will repair.
The renovation program consists of several phases in which we will upgrade the Women’s Hospital to meet the patient-oriented and cost-effective activities required in the future.
Women’s Hospital, section C: During the first phase of the renovation, floors 3–6 of section C on the Haartmaninkatu side of the building were renovated into inpatient wards. The floors T, 1, and 2 of section C will be renovated as well. The majority of the facilities in section C are inpatient wards, but there are office facilities and an auditorium as well.
Women’s Hospital, section A: The renovation started in early 2022. In the section A, facing the New Children’s Hospital, we are renovating all the floors at the same time. We are building outpatient clinic facilities on floors 1 and 4, and inpatient wards on floors 3, 5 and 6. An extension to the labor ward will be built on floor 2 and support facilities on floor T.
Women’s Hospital, section D: This phase of the renovation includes floors 1–2 in section D, but also floors 1–2 in the section C’s side that is facing section D. In section C, we will build facilities for Seri Support Center for Victims of Sexual Assault. The renewed facilities in section D will house HUS Group’s management.
Women’s Hospital, section B: The section B will be renovated last as planned in our renovation program.
