Outsourced services for eye diseases
We arrange specialist medical services for ophthalmology with private service providers as an outsourced, or purchased, service with a payment commitment to patients who need treatment provided by an ophthalmologist but do not require hospital treatment.
Changes as of July 1, 2022
As of July 1, 2022, there are changes in HUS’s medical service providers for eye diseases. For this reason, your outsourced service provider may change before the end of 2022 or during 2023.
You cannot choose the service provider of the outsourced service yourself, but you will receive a payment commitment decision to the service provider of our choice. When you receive information about the payment commitment, you will need to wait for the selected service provider to contact you. The selected service provider will contact you and agree on an appointment with you.
In order to arrange your treatment, we shall disclose the required information related to your eye disease to the service provider. This information is needed for planning the treatment. In the future, the medical records of patients receiving outsourced services will be transferred to the Kanta system through HUS Eye Diseases.
During the period of validity of the payment commitment, please contact the selected service provider for any questions related to appointments, eye care, or symptoms. The contact details of the service provider can be found in the letter sent to you.
If you wish to cancel your appointment, please contact your selected service provider directly. Appointments must be canceled at the latest by 12 noon on the day before the appointment. A penalty fee will be charged for an uncanceled no-show appointment.
Treatment with a service provider will cost the same outpatient fee as treatment with HUS eye diseases. We will send you an invoice for the treatment after your appointment. More information and the amounts of the fees can be found on the Patient fees page.
The payment commitment issued for ophthalmological treatment is personal and may not be exchanged for money or used for purposes other than those specified in the decision to award the commitment.

Canceling an appointment
If you need to cancel your appointment, you can do so by sending a text message to 040 487 9448. This number cannot be called. Please write your name and the date and time of the appointment in the message. The number is for cancellations by SMS only.

Outside the opening hours or when the number is busy, calls are directed to the appointment booking service. The appointment booking service cannot book an appointment for HUS’s outsourced service patients, but the service will leave a call request for the patient services advisors.
