Patient Ombudspersons
Patient ombudsmen will be called patient ombudspersons starting January 1, 2024.
A patient ombudsperson is an expert in patient rights. A patient ombudsperson does not deal with matters related to the patient’s care. The duties of a patient ombudsperson are defined in the Act on Patient Ombudspersons and Social Services Ombudspersons (739/2023) A patient ombudsperson is impartial in giving advice.
Patient Ombudsmen at our hospitals
- advise you in issues concerning the application of the Act on the Status and Rights of Patients (785/1992);
- advise and, if necessary, assist you or your legal representative, family member or someone else close to you in submitting an objection under Section 10 of the Act on the Status and Rights of Patients;
- advise on how to file a complaint, claim for rectification, appeal, claim for compensation, claim for compensation regarding patient or pharmaceutical injury, or any other matter relating to the legal protection of the patient's health care rights with the competent authority;
- explain your rights as a patient.
- take a position on medical treatment decisions;
- take a position on the content of care and clinical practice in the care units;
- take a position on whether treatment has resulted in a patient injury;
- intervene in the course of treatment;
- interpret the content of the patient records;
- start to investigate the patient's matter.
Monday through Thursday between 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. and on Fridays between 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
