On Ward 7B at Meilahti Triangle Hospital, we treat patients with malignant hematological diseases. Main diagnoses include acute and chronic leukemias, myeloma, lymphoma, and aplastic anemia.
Our patients arrive on our ward as planned for blood stem cell transplantation and for emergency care in case of complications, such as acute graft-versus-host reaction or infection.
Our patients remain in protective isolation nearly the entire time when receiving treatment on our ward. The average treatment time is 19 days, ranging from a few days to several months. For stem cell transplantation, the treatment period is approximately four weeks.
The hematology ward also handles apheresis (peripheral blood stem cell collection and photopheresis).
