Treatments and examinations

All children’s stem cell transplantations in Finland are performed at HUS. Each year, we perform about 30 stem cell transplantations on the Taika ward of the New Children’s Hospital. Our treatment outcomes are at a high level by international comparison.

Approximately 16,000 babies are born each year in the HUS hospitals. Almost a third of Finns are born in HUS hospitals.

Cleft lip and cleft palate are the most common type of birth defect. We treat cleft lip and cleft palate at Töölö Hospital and at the New Children’s Hospital and have nationwide responsibility for these treatments.

The goal in the treatment we provide for cleft lip/palate is to correct the patient’s appearance and to achieve speech, bite and ear functions as normal as possible.

At the New Children’s Hospital, we treat all children’s coagulation disorders, i.e. bleeding diathesis and thrombophilia.

Colorectal surgery refers to surgical treatment of diseases of the colon. We perform colorectal surgical procedures in all the HUS gastrointestinal surgery units.
