University undergraduate students
All our hospitals are research and teaching hospitals where patient care, effective clinical research and professional teaching come together on a daily basis. More than 1,000 students from medical, dental, psychology, logopedics and translational medicine training programs train in our various units every year.

Every year, approximately 600 medical students complete an internship at our hospitals. During their internships, students become acquainted with the everyday life, practical skills and capabilities of their profession as physicians, as well as the program of their internship unit. During the internship, students are not independently responsible for our patients.
Every year, more than a 100 dentistry students complete an internship at our hospitals.
At the end of their studies, psychology students at the University of Helsinki can apply for five-month internships at our various units. During the internship, the students have an employment relationship with us and are able to work under the guidance of a clinical psychologist. As a student, you are not independently responsible for our patients.
In the second year of their studies, the psychology students at the University of Helsinki get familiar with the work of a psychologist for two working weeks with us. During the introductory period, the students become acquainted with the work of a psychologist and the different aspects of a customer’s examination and treatment periods. The internship does not include actual psychologist’s work tasks, and the students are not in an employment relationship with us.
If you are studying at another university, you can apply for internships by contacting the desired unit.
Logopedics students get to know the work of a speech therapist in our units during three different clinical courses, which take place during the third and fourth year of study. During these periods, the student learns more about the work of a speech therapist and the examination and treatment periods of customers, and conducts customer evaluation and rehabilitation activities under guidance. During clinical study courses, students are not employed by us.
Toward the end of their studies, logopedics students at the University of Helsinki can apply for a four-month internship (a so-called long internship) in our various units. During the internship, the students are in an employment relationship with us and they will be able to do a wide range of speech therapist tasks under the guidance of our experienced speech therapists. A speech therapist trainee will not be independently responsible for our patients. The application process is organized annually in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Helsinki. The application period for internships in the following calendar year is in the spring of the previous year. The opening of the application period will be announced separately and is intended only for the logopedics students at the University of Helsinki.

During the period, you will become acquainted with the work of physicians and research nurses, as well as the examination and treatment of patients. The clinical training period is to be completed at the end of studies in a specialist medical care unit.
