Pharmacogenetics studies the effect of individual differences in genetic factors on drug response.

A pipette with eight tips is filling test tubes that are standing on an orange platform.

The determination of the gene variants that affect pharmacotherapy can be used to help select pharmacotherapy, reduce the risk of adverse reactions to pharmacotherapy, and improve the effectiveness of treatments.

The Guide on Pharmacogenetics provides more information on the effect of the genome on the efficacy and safety of pharmacotherapy. The pharmacogenetics guidelines contain drug-specific dose recommendations and they are intended to assist those prescribing drugs in interpreting the results of the B-PGX-D Pharmacogenetic Panel genetic test conducted by HUS Diagnostic Center.

Version 2 of Guide on Pharmacogenetics (in Finnish) has been published on November 13, 2023 (1st version was published on November 13, 2022).
The recommendations in the guide have been supplemented to correspond to the updated international care guidelines and summaries of product characteristics of statins, antidepressants, and antipsychotics.
We also updated the naming of genetic variants in substudies CYP4F2 and VKORC1 and added the abbreviations of membrane transporters (substudies ABCG2 and SLCO1B1).
Our guide now also includes the prevalence of NUDT15 genetic variants in the Finnish population.

The Guide on Pharmacogenetics will be updated November 13th, 2023 (in Finnish)

Pharmaceutical consultation services for healthcare professionals

The clinical pharmacology units respond to drug consultation queries from healthcare professionals, concerning either an individual patient and matters related to their medication (such as pharmacogenetics) or perhaps a broader set of issues.

The consultation service is not intended directly for patients, and the units do not have any appointment activities of their own.

The consultation services in Helsinki and Turku also respond to consultations from other parts of Finland.
