Quality and Patient Safety

In the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, patient safety work is based on constant improvement of operations and assessment of risks. Safe care is effective and is carried out in the right way at the right time.
The objective of patient safety is to provide treatment and a care environment that do not put the patient at risk or cause harm that is not part of the treatment provided. Possible harm caused during treatment includes, for example, infections related to the treatment, a wrong or delayed diagnosis or a medication error.
Patient safety requires cooperation between the different operators. At HUS, the patient and his or her family and close friends also have an important role in enhancing patient safety.
