The key tasks of the Finnish Diabetes Association are supporting people with diabetes, enhancing diabetes-related skills and conducting policy advocacy with the objective of preventing diabetes and its complications and improving diabetes care. The Diabetes Association is a national public health and patient organisation consisting of 106 local branches, two national associations and four professional associations. The Association has a total of approximately 60,000 individual members.

The Association offers adjustment coaching and rehabilitation for diabetics and their families, and training and specialist services to health care professionals.

The association’s website www.diabetes.fi contains a wealth of information on diabetes and the association’s activities. The Finnish Diabetes Association also participates in social media. The association publishes a range of materials, such as the Diabetes magazine and the Diabetes ja lääkäri (Diabetes and Doctor) magazine, as well as care instruction and guidance materials.

The Association’s headquarters and course centre, Diabeteskeskus, is located in Aitolahti, some 25km from Tampere.
