Welcome to the care pathway for a prostate cancer patient. On this website, we explain to you step by step how your examinations and treatment will proceed.

Vanha mies hymyilee toiselle henkilölle.

If examinations carried out in basic health care, in occupational health care, or at a private medical center have given reason to suspect prostate cancer, the physician will give you a referral to the Helsinki University Hospital's urology department for further examinations.

Based on the referral, an appointment will be booked for you for a clinical examination and, usually, a needle aspirate sample of the prostate, taken under ultrasound guidance. You will be invited to the appointment by letter. The appointment will be at the Helsinki University Hospital Urology Outpatient Clinic at either Meilahti Hospital or Peijas Hospital.

If you have already been diagnosed with prostate cancer elsewhere, the physician will write you a referral for a treatment consultation and possible further examinations to the Helsinki University Hospital Urology Outpatient Clinic at Meilahti Hospital or Peijas Hospital, or to the Oncology Outpatient Clinic.

If a physician in outpatient health care suspects the recurrence or progression of a previously treated prostate cancer, you will be given a referral for further examinations and treatment at the Helsinki University Hospital Urology Outpatient Clinic at Meilahti Hospital or Peijas Hospital, or to the Oncology Outpatient Clinic. Your treatment unit will be determined by your place of residence.
