Such conditions include a variety of joint and spine illnesses caused by inflammation or wear; metabolic disorders of the musculoskeletal system; and inflammatory diseases related to the connective tissue of various organs, to the skeleton, and to blood vessels. Our Rheumatology unit is the largest of its kind in Finland. It includes the rheumatology outpatient clinics at the Triangle Hospital in Meilahti, at Jorvi Hospital, and at Peijas Hospital, and a rheumatology ward with 3 to 5 beds. Most patients visit the outpatient clinic or the day hospital. We work in teams consisting of not only a physician but also, for example, an arthritis nurse, occupational therapist, rehabilitation counselor, social worker and physiotherapist. We collaborate with basic health care. We also engage extensively in both basic and clinical research. We treat patients with - rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, arthritis related to psoriasis or inflammatory bowel disease, and reactive arthritis - children's rheumatic diseases in adulthood - systemic connective tissue diseases (such as SLE and systemic sclerosis) - vasculitides, such as inflammation of the temporal arteries - rare rheumatic diseases such as mixed systemic rheumatic disease and adult-onset Still's disease Non-inflammatory, musculoskeletal pains and disorders (such as fibromyalgia) are examined and treated in basic health care. ## Rheumatology occupational therapy --- Reumatologian erikoisalan hoitoryhmään kuuluu myös toimintaterapeutteja. Reumatoimintaterapiaan tulevat potilaat sairastavat eri reumasairauksia, mutta suurin potilasryhmämme on nivelreumaa sairastavat henkilöt. Toimintaterapiassa tuemme sinua ylläpitämään ja parantamaan toimintakykyäsi niin, että selviydyt päivittäisistä toiminnoistasi mahdollisimman omatoimisesti. Lähestymistapamme toimintaterapiaan on asiakaslähtöinen. Toteutamme hoidon joko yksilöllisesti tai ryhmässä. Meille tulet hoitoon lääkärin lähetteellä. Reumatoimintaterapeuttimme valmistavat ja sovittavat erilaisia ortooseja (lastoja, tukia) käsiin ja kaularankaan sekä ohjaavat niveltensäästössä ja pienapuvälineiden käytössä. Toimintaterapiassa arvioimme yläraajan toimintaa mm. erilaisilla standardoiduilla testeillä ja mittareilla sekä haastattelemalla ja havainnoimalla.
