Reasons for referrals often include an acute mental health crisis, an assessment of mental status and the need for further psychiatric care, a differential diagnosis issue, or assessment of a person’s mental work ability. For psychiatric problems not related to the patient’s somatic condition, the patient should be referred to regional psychiatric services. Our clinic collaborates with somatic units through care consultations and training, among other things. Psychiatric consultation may be conducted by either a physician or a psychiatric nurse.
