Jorvi's new ward building The Jorvi hospital campus is HUS's second largest hospital area after Meilahti. Jorvi Hospital has one of the busiest emergency departments in Finland and the second largest labor unit in Finland. The hospital also provides surgical services in several specialties.

“Jorvi hospital campus plays a central role in HUS's service network. It brings together specialized healthcare services, emergency and childbirth services, and primary healthcare services. The new ward building will further strengthen Jorvi's role and improve our services well into the future,” says Director of Medical Services, **Mika Laine.**

Units will move to the ward building from Jorvi Hospital's current ward towers, separate buildings on the campus, the Vega House, and the nearby Espoo Hospital. More than 600 professionals will work regularly in the new ward building.

## Patient-centered facilities enhance treatment and streamline work

The ward building has six inpatient wards for adults and two pediatric wards. Patient rooms are mainly single rooms. The building will also include day units and outpatient services. The new facilities with a patient-centered focus will support high-quality and effective treatment.

The labor unit will have twelve delivery rooms and three operating rooms for C-sections. Nearly all patient rooms were designed as family rooms. The new facilities will better support Couplet Care, allowing parents and babies to remain together even when the baby needs care at a neonatal ward.

Imaging services will also be available in the new building. Patients can access laboratory sample collection directly from the main lobby.

The ward building also has facilities for medical technology, bed maintenance, a cleaning center, and a centralized assistive device service.

“The staff will have new, functional, and modern workspaces that support streamlined workflow. The facilities and changes to operations have been planned together with the personnel,” says Architect **Tuija Ylä-Rautio**.

Access to the ward building is through the new main entrance to Jorvi Hospital, [opened in April](https://www.hus.fi/en/newsroom/jorvi-hospitals-new-main-entrance-opens-april-20-2026).

## Art supports health

At HUS, the treatment environment is enriched with art to promote health and to empower patients. Art also supports the staff's overall wellbeing.

For the new ward building, art was commissioned both as single pieces and extensive illustrations. Pieces from HUS's current art collection have also been selected for display in the building. Art can be found on every floor and in every unit.

A children's playground will be opened in the hospital yard when the hospital opens its doors to patients. The playground is open to all: patients, visitors, children of the adjacent school and day care, and the public in general. It offers families a cozy place to be active outdoors.
