In HUS, we are responsible for the emergency services for oral diseases on evenings, nights, and weekends. If you need emergency care between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on weekdays, please contact the local health care services in your municipality.

 ##  Emergency care on evenings and weekends 

Emergency care in oral primary health care on evenings and weekends is intended for patients in need of emergency first aid. We serve all residents of the Uusimaa region on weekday evenings as well as on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Emergency Services for Oral Diseases on evenings and weekends are arranged at Park Hospital. The visiting address is Stenbäckinkatu 11 C, 1st floor.

Service hours:

- Mon–Fri, 4:00–9:00 p.m.
- Sat–Sun, 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.

You can seek emergency dental care by calling the appointment booking number 09 471 71110. We assess the urgency of the need for treatment over the phone.

Phone hours for booking appointments:

- Mon–Fri, 2:00–9:00 p.m.
- Sat–Sun and public holidays, 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.

We treat situations requiring emergency care in the emergency care for oral diseases at [Park Hospital ](/en/patient/hospitals-and-other-units/park-hospital/emergency-care-oral-and-maxillofacial-diseases "Emergency Care for Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases outside Primary Health Care Service Hours, Park Hospital")during the evenings and weekends.

Please seek emergency medical attention immediately if you experience increased swelling, redness and pain, limited opening of the mouth (less than 2 fingers wide between the front teeth), or difficulty swallowing.

Other situations requiring emergency care include:

- Dental trauma (detachment, displacement or accidental splitting of a permanent tooth)
- An accident involving a primary tooth where the teeth cannot be clenched together
- A broken, permanently fitted orthodontic device that is causing sharp pain, and the pain cannot be alleviated by using chewing gum or orthodontic wax. Or the sharp pain caused by the orthodontic device has resulted in bleeding which cannot be stopped by applying compression (also at night if necessary)
- Bleeding from the mouth after a tooth extraction or other procedure which will not stop within two hours by means of instructions received from the emergency services.
- Severe pain that does not respond to pain relief medication
- General symptoms associated with dental and oral diseases (e.g. fever)
- A symptom of the jaw joint where the mouth will not open or close
- A chipped tooth with any of the following symptoms: swelling, limited opening of the mouth, or pain relief medication will not alleviate the pain
- Dentures have caused a painful pressure sore
- A large appearance-disturbing chip in an incisor, and the problem cannot wait

 



 



 

##  Night-time emergency services 

The night-time emergency service only treats patients in need of immediate care whose treatment cannot be postponed due to medical reasons to take place in primary health care services during the day or evening on the next day from 8 a.m. onwards.

Night-time emergency care for oral diseases is provided by the Oral and maxillofacial surgery's emergency service. The visiting address is Haartman Hospital, Haartmaninkatu 4.

- Open: Mon–Sun 9 p.m.–8 a.m.
- **Medical Helpline (tel. 116 117) evaluates the need for treatment.** The night-time emergency care operates according to medical triage.

- Suspected facial​ and jaw fracture
- Dental trauma (detachment, displacement or accidental splitting of a permanent tooth)
- An accident involving a primary tooth where the teeth cannot be clenched together
- Bleeding from the mouth after a tooth extraction or other procedure which will not stop within two hours by means of instructions received from the emergency services.
- Dislocation of the temporomandibular joint (dislocated jaw)

 



 



 

##  Situations that do not require urgent emergency treatment 

###   Cases that do not require emergency first aid are treated in primary health care of your municipality.

- Mild pain alleviated by pain medication
- Shooting pain when exposed to hot or cold
- A chipped tooth or filling
- Problems with prosthetic devices or detachable orthodontic devices
