We also have activities in other HUS hospitals and primary health care services.  We provide services in the following specialties: infectious diseases, rheumatology, skin diseases and allergology (children, lungs, ear, nose and throat diseases, eyes, skin, clinical physiology), and sexually transmitted diseases. ## Divisions ### Infectious diseases --- We examine and treat infectious diseases caused by microbes such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. The majority of ordinary infections are treated in primary health care and outpatient health care, or they heal on their own with home care. We treat those in need of inpatient care based on the severity of the infection in all HUS hospitals. Meilahti Triangle Hospital has two inpatient wards for infectious diseases. We also provide treatment in the Day Hospital at Meilahti Triangle Hospital and the outpatient clinic. We treat patients with - Severe general infections, such as sepsis - Immune disorders, such as HIV and congenital immune disorders, such as common variable immunodeficiency CVI - Complications of infection and diagnostically and therapeutically difficult cases, such as fever of unknown origin - Severe post-operative infections - Rare tropical diseases, such as malaria. ### Skin disorders --- Within HUS, the specialist medical care of diseases manifested on the skin of adults and children is centralized in our Skin and Allergy Hospital. The hospital treats a significant number of malignant skin tumors or their precursors, as well as difficult-to-treat skin wounds. In addition, the hospital has an outpatient clinic for sexually transmitted diseases which operates on a walk-in basis without appointments. ### Allergy disorders --- In the specialty of allergology, we examine and treat allergic lung and skin diseases in adults and children, as well as health hazards caused by indoor air. ### Rheumatic diseases --- We diagnose and treat musculoskeletal, connective tissue and related soft-tissue illnesses, pains, and dysfunctions. Rheumatologic conditions include a variety of joint and spine illnesses caused by inflammation or wear; metabolic disorders of the musculoskeletal system; and inflammatory diseases related to the connective tissue of various organs, to the skeleton, and to blood vessels. Our Rheumatology Unit is the largest of its kind in Finland. It includes the rheumatology outpatient clinics at Meilahti Triangle Hospital, Jorvi Hospital, and Peijas Hospital, and a rheumatology ward with 3–5 patient beds. Most patients visit the outpatient clinic or the day hospital. We work in teams consisting of not only a physician but also, for example, an arthritis nurse, occupational therapist, rehabilitation instructor, social worker, physiotherapist, and podiatrist. We collaborate with primary health care. We also engage extensively in both basic and clinical research. We treat patients with - Rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, arthritis related to psoriasis or inflammatory bowel disease, and reactive arthritis - Childhood rheumatic diseases in adulthood - Systemic connective tissue diseases (such as SLE and systemic sclerosis) - Vasculitides, such as inflammation of the temporal arteries - Rare rheumatic diseases such as mixed systemic rheumatic disease and adult-onset Still's disease.
