The department has three different divisions: the Emergency Care division, which includes Medical Helpline 116 117, and the Prehospital Emergency Care division, which includes the Poison Information Center and the Teratological Information Service. Emergency Medicine and Services also includes medical transport. In developing our activities, we utilize our own experts by experience and customer panels. An expert by experience is also included in our executive group. ## Divisions ### Emergency Care division --- Emergency Medicine and Services is responsible for the operations of the emergency departments in Hyvinkää, Jorvi, Lohja, Malmi, Meilahti, Peijas, and Porvoo. In addition, Emergency Medicine and Services includes the intermediate care units located in these hospitals. The Emergency Care division also includes Medical Helpline 116 117, an information and assistance service focused on acute health problems outside office hours. In the Uusimaa region, the Medical Helpline Service has two service providers: HUS produces the service for the HUS area outside the City of Helsinki, and the City of Helsinki provides the service to Helsinki residents. ### Prehospital Emergency Care division --- Prehospital emergency care has been arranged in cooperation with four rescue departments and two private ambulance companies, and as HUS activities. There are two emergency unit locations for the emergency medical service physicians in the Helsinki metropolitan area: the Central Rescue Station in Helsinki and the medical helicopter base at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The Poison Information Center is also part of the Emergency Care division. It serves the entire country and answers questions about the prevention and treatment of sudden poisonings on the phone around the clock. Advice is provided to the public and healthcare professionals. In addition, the Teratological Information Service is part of the Emergency Care division. The Teratological Information Service provides information to expectant mothers on medications and other external factors that have an adverse impact on pregnancy and fetal development. ### Medical Transport --- Medical transport is centrally responsible for organizing urgent and non-urgent patient transfers between the healthcare units in the entire Uusimaa region and the member municipalities. Transfers are carried out as separate activities and as a purchased service with ambulances and patient transport vehicles. The reception, processing and customer service required for medical transport orders is centralized in the logistics service’s Välityskeskus, which is open 24 hours a day. Orders are placed online through the Kaiku program or, if necessary, orders can be placed by phone. Calls will be recorded in order to verify orders.
