No changes to HUS services at the turn of the year
Keywords:Patient care at HUS will continue as before as the health and social services reform enters into force at the turn of the year. Scheduled appointments will remain as agreed. HUS emergency departments only treat patients who fall ill suddenly or require urgent care that cannot wait until the patient's own health center opens.
HUS will continue to be responsible for organising specialized healthcare in the Uusimaa region and its collaborative area and HUS’s national responsibilities will remain the same.
In case of severe symptoms, go to an emergency department
The health and social services reform will not affect the operation of HUS emergency departments. HUS emergency departments only treat patients who fall ill suddenly or require urgent care that cannot wait until the patient's own health center opens.
Typical symptoms that require urgent care are, for example, severe chest pain, symptoms of paralysis, urgent mental health issues, severe bleeding, major injuries, breathing difficulties, sudden and intense headache or stomach ache.
In children, typical symptoms requiring urgent care include breathing difficulties, fever in a child under 3 months of age, reduced general condition due to an infection, suspected onset of diabetes, prolonged seizure, and suspected fracture or some other serious injury.
Call the Medical Helpline 116117 for help
Patients seeking urgent care should first call the Medical Helpline 116117 where nurses assess the need for treatment and direct the patient to the appropriate place of care or give instructions for treatment at home.
