By giving birth partners identification wristbands, we aim to improve access control and safety of the families throughout their stay in the hospital. We are introducing the wristbands in the labor and maternity units in Women's Hospital and Espoo Hospital as well as in the Family Nest Hotel.

The birth partner is required to wear the wristband the entire time they are in the hospital. The wristband is removed upon discharge.  The aim of the wristbands is to help us distinguish birth partners from other, potentially unauthorized persons at the wards.

It is our intention to continue the wristband policy beyond the COVID-19 restrictions to ensure families’ safety.

The birth partner’s wristband in a nutshell

  • One birth partner selected by the person giving birth receives a colorful wristband upon arrival in the hospital
  • The birth partner is required to wear the wristband the entire time they are in the labor unit or the maternity unit / Family Nest Hotel after the delivery
  • If the birth partner is replaced by another at some point, the wristband will be removed and a new one will be given to the new birth partner
  • The wristband does not contain any text or personal information.
