Isotretinoin is used to treat severe acne. If used in early pregnancy, isotretinoin significantly increases the risk of serious fetal abnormalities (heart and central nervous system malformations). Individuals undergoing isotretinoin treatment must not get pregnant.

Isotretinoin stays in the body for a long time: it is therefore necessary to continue using a reliable form of contraception for one month after isotretinoin therapy has been discontinued. A negative pregnancy test is required before treatment is initiated, during treatment and 5 weeks after the treatment has been completed, to ensure that you are not pregnant.

Never give isotretinoin to others and never use isotretinoin that was prescribed to someone else. Be sure to follow your physician's instructions carefully.
