Comprehensive care at HUCH Cancer Center
The Cancer Center offers a broad range of support services to cancer patients. In addition to medical care, people with cancer require other support and rehabilitation in the difficult situations they face. The main forms of support are:
- Physical threapy for the swelling or impaired function of an arm
- Consultation with a social worker on social benefits for cancer patients
- A counseling nurse from the Cancer Society of Finland provides information and support for recently diagnosed cancer patients and their families
- Peer support via the OLKA support point
- Psychological support to understand and manage the new life situation
- Psychological support group for young breast cancer patients
- Psychological support group for mothers of small children
- Group information sessions about a healthy lifestyle
- Group information sessions on treatment of arm edema (swelling)
- Group information sessions on follow-up after radiotherapy and the side effects of treatments
- Therapeutic dietitians provide guidance, particularly for overweight patients
- Appointment with a pain specialist if pain in the surgical area does not subside in the usual amount of time
- Elderly cancer patients’ outpatient clinic
