Physical therapy

A patient is referred to physical therapy by a physician or breast-cancer nurse at the
symptom clinic due to impairment, pain and/or lymphedema of the arm.

Physical therapy aims to improve the patient’s functioning through counseling, guidance, therapeutic exercise and manual therapy.

Based on examination and assessment in physical therapy, a plan is prepared for treating and monitoring arm impairment/lymphedema. The patient also receives guidance for obtaining and using compression products for lymphedema. There will be 1 to 3 physical therapy visits.
