Physician’s referral to HUCH Breast Surgery Unit

Before referring a patient to the HUCH Breast Surgery Unit, the health center, occupational, or private physician should have results available from mammography, ultrasound examination of the breasts and armpits, and core needle biopsies.

When the Breast Surgery Unit receives a referral, the chief physician or a designated specialist gives instructions based on the information it provides.

A breast-cancer nurse calls the patient within 1 to 2 days after the referral arrives. The patient is informed about the first outpatient clinic visit and any additional studies needed at this time. The patient is also given a tentative surgery date and other useful information.

If necessary, you may also contact the appointment and counseling line yourself on weekdays between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at 09 471 76328.

You may call the breast-cancer nurse about any concerns you have, preferably on weekdays between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., at 050 427 0509.
