Mammography is a breast examination method utilising radiographs to examine tumours and alterations in the breasts. Mammography is the most commonly used method in breast cancer diagnostics and screening. During the procedure, the breast is compressed for a short while between two plates of the mammography unit. Mammography utilises ionising radiation, but the risk involved is extremely small, because the radiation dose used is low in comparison, for instance, to natural background radiation.
