Surgery

Surgery is the most common treatment for cancer. Surgical techniques are applied to completely remove a cancerous tumour. Surgical possibilities, extent and risks depend on the location, size and other characteristics of the tumour. To prevent cancer from spreading, healthy tissue surrounding the affected site is often removed with the tumour.

 

In the HUS area, cancer surgeries are performed in the surgical units but not at the Department of Oncology.
