Social support

Being diagnosed with cancer often affects your financial situation. The costs of cancer treatment and the benefits you are entitled to are all part of your everyday life and require initiative. As soon as you have been diagnosed, you should find out or ask your family members or a close friend to find out about the benefits and support you are entitled to. A cancer diagnosis will most likely be confusing and overwhelming. Nevertheless, you alone are responsible for finding out the benefits and support you are entitled to and applying for them.

The two social workers at the Department of Oncology assist patients and their families in social welfare issues.

The Association of Finnish Cancer Patients Suomen syöpäpotilaat ry. has compiled a comprehensive information package on the social benefits and support all cancer patients should be aware of as soon as the diagnosis has been confirmed.
