Cancer affects sexuality

Being diagnosed with cancer usually affects your sexuality. The effects differ between patients and depend greatly on the clinical picture of the disease. Common symptoms include loss of sexual desire and functional disorders due to the treatments and the physically and mentally stressful situation.
The importance of sex and sexuality is different for different people. Therefore, changes caused by cancer – directly or indirectly – affect people differently; for some, loss of sexual desire and functional disorders are an important issue, while for others they might bear little importance. Often, changes in your sexual self-image are transient and it is possible to recover or even improve your previous sexual self-image.
