How does the screening benefit you?

Screening organized by HUSLAB takes place every five years and is cost-free, reliable, and provides the entire treatment chain for the participant.

Cervical cancer develops through precancerous conditions. The precancerous conditions can be detected and treated, which means that cancer development can in most cases be prevented with regular participation in screening. Cancer development is usually a slow process that takes several years, which makes the five-year screening interval safe.

Cancers and precancerous conditions are detected in women of all ages and that is why it is important to participate in screening from the first screening invitation onwards. We recommend that you participate in screening even if you had, for example, a Pap test recently taken elsewhere.
