When a child or an adolescent falls ill, it greatly affects the family’s everyday life, interpersonal relationships in the family, work, income, and it may disrupt the usual pattern of life.  Crisis intervention and supporting families when their child falls ill is at the core of a hospital social worker’s work.  The family can discuss the different options and solutions available with the social worker.

The aim of social work is to make it easier for the family to cope in their everyday life.

Issues at hand may be for example:

  • organizing help at home
  • social security benefits
  • rehabilitation matters
  • social services
  • reaching out to outside agencies as needed.

Through conversations with a social worker, the family can discover new resources and survival methods for their changed circumstances.
