The rehabilitation counselling service is intended for children and adolescents with long-term illnesses or injuries. A rehabilitation instructor works closely with the child or adolescent and their family to find ways to help them learn to live with the illness or injury.  The patient or their family can contact a rehabilitation instructor directly, or a social worker or another healthcare worker or other authorities can contact rehabilitation counselling with the family’s permission.

The rehabilitation instructor assists the patient and their family with finding the correct services for the patient, and supports them in everyday chores, hobbies and social life. Through rehabilitation counselling we are able to assess how the patient's injury or illness affects managing in everyday life and participating in age-appropriate chores and activities at home. The patient may have a need for services that support their rehabilitation, or may require changes or assistive devices in their home or school that rehabilitation counselling can guide them with. The rehabilitation instructor collaborates with the team responsible for the patient's treatment and coordinates the entire rehabilitation process.
